Small Happies

Sometimes Happiness can come from the small things.
Since I can use some positive focusing, I'm going to spend some time noticing some little things that make me Very Happy!

First up, a sunny day. A blanket, some comfy pillows and a good book.

I just finished up Wizard and Glass, the fourth book in Steven King's The Dark Tower series. I was underwhelmed by the first book, but got sucked right in when I pushed on with the second. I have flown through these first four in record time.
I've run a small snag in that I can't quite seem to find a copy of the next book in the series either in the library or in second-hand shops, but I'm sure that it will come eventually. So far I've heard that the following books aren't nearly as good as the ones I've already finished though, so perhaps it's best if I take a bit of a breather.

I'm currently reading Geisha of Gion: The Memoir of Mineko Iwasaki. I was intending to wait and begin it on April 23, the "official" start date of the readtheworld challenge (a reading challenge which aims to read books from as many different countries as possible in one year), but I had finished Wizard and Glass quicker then I anticipated and it was here and tempting! I even think I may finish this before Friday, too... But no matter, there are still many books from Japan that are on my To Be Read list!

You know I'm a HUGE Tower Junkie.

The rest of the books ARE good.
I know some folks get all snooty and hate on the later books (mostly, I think, due to them not going where the reader wanted them to go) but I really like them. :) I wasn't disappointed at all in the final books nor am I a "Wizard and Glass" hater. A lot of the DT fans hate that one, too.

After you're done, there are coooomics.
Which reminds me, I need to get caught up on my DT comic purchases!

If you really can't find a copy, let me know.
I think I have 2 or 3 and can send you one. :)
It's Wolves of the Calla next, right?

Re: ;)
Hehehe, I was hoping you'd chime in, remembering my visit with you!

I REALLY liked the tale of Susan; but I thought the ending of Wizard and Glass was a bit... flat, but then again I didn't like the ending of The Wasteland, either (by far my favourite thus far) because I don't like cliff-hanger endings.

I haven't quite exhausted my second hand book shop resources in the area, but I'll certainly poke you if it seems it doesn't exist around here!

I just finished her memoir today, and I did indeed find it incredibly interesting, especially the last final pages. I can not imagine a life working as hard as she did, it's very humbling.

I don't mind a bit of horror fiction (in fact writing is really the only source of horror material I -can- stomach) but the Dark Tower Series, although -highly- dramatic aren't very horrific (there's only one scene so far that really scared me enough to be worried for nightmares...) Steven King is, however, absolutely brutal on his characters though, and there are a -lot- of deeply unpleasant situations they end up in. I really haven't read a lot of King's other work though, to be honest, mostly because I tend to avoid horror as well... but I'm beginning to think I should pick up a few others and give it a try.
